Background (you can't snowboard year-round, Dude)With no summertime recreational facilities nearby, the nearest concrete park 20 miles away in Boulder and a dearth of area street structures to test their skills, the youth of Nederland have been seeking a local skatepark for many years. In the spring of 2004, the movement finally achieved critical mass, as Nederland area teens and older skaters packed a Nederland Board of Trustees meeting and came away with a unanimous expression of support for the concept of a skatepark to be located on a parcel of land sandwiched between the Nederland Teen Center on the north and the Barker Reservoir inlet on the south. Skatepark supporters were directed to start lower down the governmental ladder, first winning the approval of the Nederland Planning Commission, before returning to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The movement stalled a bit as the leader of the Nederland Skatepark Advisory Council, or NSPAC, Kevin Brazanskas, moved away to explore the Hawaiian surf, but a successful handoff to some new recruits rekindled the effort. Meeting regularly, NSPAC (later to become NEDSK8) has made steady progress towards its goal. This site will attempt to chronicle and support that effort, for the benefit of our supporters and friends. Thanks for visiting!
